Disability Attorney - On the Docket

While it may not be a household name, disability attorneys who are serious about representing disabled workers on Social Security Disability cases are familiar with a group known as the National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives (NOSSCR). Based in Washington, D.C., NOSSCR lobbies Congress and the White House on issues related to disability law. The disability attorneys at RGG Law have supported the efforts of NOSCCR with a membership in this prestigious group since the very founding of the firm in 1995.

The efforts of NOSSCR have been critical in pressuring the Social Security Administration to hire more judges and hearing office staff to process cases, reduce the backlog of pending claims and speeding up the scheduling of ALJ hearings for disability claimants.

It was not long ago that many hearing offices experienced wait times of 24 months and greater for those requesting ALJ hearings on their denied claims. Currently, many claimants and disability attorneys still wait somewhere around 12 months for a hearing, which is a very long time, but much improved over the multi-year delays experienced in the past. It is hoped that improvements in technology, including electronic storage of medical records, and the additional resources for judges and staff will continue to reduce the backlog and reduce the wait time for claimants even further.

The Disability Attorneys at RGG Law Don’t Only Support the NOSCCR

In addition to supporting the lobbying efforts of NOSCCR, the disability attorneys of RGG Law have access to electronic and regular newsletters with the latest information regarding changes in the law relating to disability cases, including action by Congress, new agency regulations, and recent court rulings across the country. The organization also sponsors multiple conferences every year which disability lawyers attend to meet professional educational requirements and to learn valuable legal and medical information to be even better advocates for their clients.
If you are trying to select a disability attorney to handle your disability claim, make sure they or their firm is a member of NOSSCR, as this is a clear reflection of how seriously committed that attorney is to this unique and demanding area of law.
