Tips from Disability Lawyers: Judge Approval Rates

Disability Attorney - On the Docket

When a disability case or a social security disability appeal is set for a hearing, the name of the Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) assigned to the case is usually identified in the Hearing Notice sent out by the Social Security Administration. As these judges are executive branch appointees, the disability lawyers who regularly deal with them may know their personalities and leanings on various issues, but the public often knows very little about them.

However, the Social Security Administration’s website now publishes data about the rate at which these judges issue favorable, unfavorable, and partially favorable decisions. You no longer need to be one of the disability lawyers who knows the judge to understand his or her tendencies. The data can be accessed at the Social Security Administration’s website at www.ssa.gov with a search for “ALJ Disposition Data.” Simply follow the links and instructions to view statistics for each and every one of the agency’s ALJs all across the country.

This Information Cannot Replace Experienced Disability Lawyers

Please remember, the data provided covers ALL dispositions, including cases where a claimant is not represented by any disability lawyers or where a case is dismissed for technical reasons. The agency periodically updates the information posted, with the last update occurring January 30, 2015. Though this information is helpful, it cannot replace the expertise of the disability lawyers of RGG Law.
